Desharn's help the animals animation

Desharn created an animation for the DigiAwards because he wanted to help animals.
You can check it out on his blog:

Sam's DigiAward entry

Sam really wanted to get his message across, so has learned to create a PowToon to raise awareness about a problem he struggles with.

Perseverance... Or, as we call it at South Hornby, persisting...
"You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose."
We played Pacman...
We were only allowed to run on the lines. If we got tagged, we had to sit down... And only the Pacman could go past us. Each round, we added another tagged. We had to persevere when we got tired, because we just needed to keep running. We needed to persevere when we got stuck between two tagged people.
We played "Spoons", where you need to try and collect four cards that are the same number. You can take turns, where you have to pick up and put one face down to pass on to the next person. You can only have four cards at a time. When you get four cards the same, you grab a spoon. Then everyone else grabs a spoon too, untill they're all gone.
After a round, we played elimination, where the last person to get a spoon is out.

Astonishing animations...

The boys have been at it again!
Check out their animation...

For my DLO, Michael and I  chose the category Digital Art and created an Animation. We found a learning curve firstly how we had to keep on duplicating the slides and how we had to keep moving the characters or objects… How to change the html code when embedding, so it plays like a movie. We had different jobs to do, Michael had to get all of our pictures, backgrounds and think of ideas and I had the job of moving the pictures and duplicating the slides.

Marvellous Movie Making Minstrels

Tai & Andre have been working really hard for the past week, perfecting their DigiAward entry. In the beginning they had never used iMovie... Now they're the experts!
We started filming in one chunk, thinking we were done. After feedback, we learned to use iMovie for the first time and had to split film and delete then retake boring or jumpy scenes. We learned to duplicate, split film, add titles and text… attach and detach audio… modify the speed between turtle and rabbit mode… adjust transitions. We used the ipad stand then took turns filming each other for individual shots. The bits that were “jumpy”, we retook them using the stand instead of holding it, for stability. We did about 9 prototypes. We learned to upload to YouTube.

Today at Kiwican we learned about resilience. It means to try your best and bounce back and face your challenges.
Daisy the cow visited today. We played "chuck the chicken" with Daisy the cow. One team fields and gets ready to catch the cow. When they catch it, they line up ready to line up before the person who has thrown it can run around the circle.
Some of the problems we had were that we were too slow... Slipping over... Fighting over poor Daisy... Last week we talked about emotions that we feel when we get into those situations.

We role played some problems and solutions.

All her work had been deleted and she needed to get a technician in...
Brothers and sisters arguing over who is doing what with the chores... Being woken up by siblings...
The balls gone over the fence... How will we get it back?
Sometimes when we choose to work in a group, we pick our friends and it doesn't get the job done very well.
A high tackle on the field turns into a fight...

Times Tables

We have been learning about times tables. We learnt that the X in between the numbers means groups of. We learnt how to show what a times table looks like using play dough.

Fractions and Playdough

In Maths we have been learning what fractions are. We have learnt that a fraction is a part of a whole. Fractions can be different sizes.  We made fractions pizzas out of playdough.

DIgiAwards 2016

For the last few years, our school has been extremely successful at the Canterbury DigiAwards. We are prototyping our entries for this year. Some of our learners are in The Digital Sandpit, making games. Please try them and leave a comment giving them effective feedback on what you think of it... and how they might improve it.

Another word for resilience is perseverance. That's our next module.
Kiwican says: I am resilient, I am strong. I can face my fears. Bring it on!
We played Ninja Tag...
We passed the ball backwards and forwards, until Nathan yelled "Ninja". We had to be careful to listen in case he said something different, like "Nana"! We needed to remember, in our excitement, to walk quickly instead of running inside. Some of the problems were people running the wrong way, loose balls...
In class we have problems like... Noise, someone wanting to collaborate but you don't want to collaborate with them. We sometimes feel irritated, confused, annoyed. We can control how we feel by keeping control of our own feelings.

We needed to use our problem solving skills to change the fish to turn the other way.

In Kiwican, we are learning about Reliliance. Today Nathan had to cope with the challa get of Katie getting sick. Resilience is being persistent and keeping on trying by not giving up.
Our new module is Problem Solving. I am Resiliant, I am strong. I face my fears, bring it on.
We learned a new game where we had a get the bat behind our team line for two points... If we tagged the other team we get one point.
We faced challenges:
- to try and remember your number.
- to try and think of a strategy to play fair but also to play smart.
- to keep calm while people are even watching you.
Next we played lava islands
The challenges we faced were:
- having to get our whole team accross and back.
- we needed to understand that there were lots of ways to do things in different ways.

In our learning there are lots of different ways to learn.

Converting m to cm and vice versa

Think "Time Walk"...

If we're going to the metre metre side... Take 2 steps to the left.
If we're going to the centimetre side... Take 2 steps to the right...
